The 84th most common last name in China. During the Zhou Dynasty, Zhou Wen Wangs grandson Bo Qin was made the duke of Lu and established the Lu kingdom. During Chun Qiu period, Bo Qins descendent Qing Fu was involved in a rebellion that killed the duke of Lu, and had to flee to another kingdom. Since he was wanted by the kingdom of Lu, Qing Fu changed his last name from Ji to Mengsun. Meng means the oldest son. Later he was arrested and sent back to Lu by Ji You. On the way to Lu, Qing Fu sent his son to Ji You and asked for forgiveness. Ji You conveyed to Qing Fu that if he would commit suicide, then his family would be spared. Qing Fu did die on the road, but its not clear if he killed himself to spare his family, or died of natural causes. After returning to the Lu kingdom, his descendents soon changed their last name from Mengsun to Meng.
