The 74[sup]th[/sup] most common last name in China. This last name came from the clan of Jiang. During the Zhou dynasty, Ji Zi, the oldest son of duke Qi Ding Gong gave his throne to his brother Shu Yi and went to the land of Cui (north west of Zhangqiu in Shandong. His descendents are known as the Cuis. The Cuis were the noble family in the Qi kingdom. The 8[sup]th[/sup] generation descendent, Cui Zhu was in charge of the administration. Later on, the Cuis lost power and fled to the Lu kingdom. The 15[sup]th[/sup] generation descendent Cui Ruyi was made the duke of Dongcai during the Qin dynasty (north east of Qinghe in Hebei). During the Han and Jin Dynasties, Cuis were considered as one of the four most prestigious last names together with Lu, Wang and Xia.Hometown: Qinghe in Hebei Province.
