Chi or Chea is a surname that names after an object. According to the book FengSu Tong, ancient castles were surrounded by moats (deep and wide trenches filled with water for the purpose of fortification) known as Chi or Chea. People who lived close to the moat or Chi (or Chea) adopted it as their surname.
