The 78[sup]th[/sup] most common last name in China. The forefather of Qin was Wei Feizi**, who was a horse trainer for Zhou Xiao Wang. Because of his good work, he was awarded the valley of Qin (south west of Shui), and was made a duke. After a few generations, Qins descendents settled at Shaanxi. The original last name of Wei Feizi was Ying. Since he was made the duke of Qin, some of his descendents started using Qin as their last name. During Zhan Guo, Qin became a powerful kingdom which eventually conquered the rest of the kingdoms, united China, and established the Qin Dynasty. This is why, the last name Qin is more popular than that of Ying.**Feizi was a descendent of Zhuan Xu, the ancient king. Zhuan Xus grandson was Nuxiu. Nuxiu was the father of Da Ye and Da Ye was the father of Bo Yi. Bo Yi was known for his contribution in helping Xia Yu to fight the flood, and was given the last name Ying.
