The 79th most common last name in China. This name originated from the last name Ying. They are the descendents of Bo Yi, who was known for his contribution in helping Xia Yu to fight the flood of the Yellow River. Bo Yi was made the duke of Jiang (Zhengyang in Henan). Since the Jiang kingdom was very close to the Yellow River, it was constantly being bothered by its flood, and remained a weak kingdom. In 623B.C., the Jiang kingdom was eliminated by Zhu of the Chu kingdom, and had become a city of the Chu. After the kingdom was destroyed, the Jiangs migrated north east and began to bear the last name Jiang (meaning river).

Hometown: north east of Tao in Shandong, or north east of Lanfeng in Henan.
