The 32[sup]nd[/sup] most common last name in China. The ancient king Zhuan Xu had a son called Wu Hui, who was appointed the position of Huo Zheng (in charge of sacrifices; making burn offerings). Wus son, Lu Zhong, married Gui, a daughter of the Gui Fang family. Gui gave birth to six sons through a caesarian birth. The first son, Fan, was given the last name Ji and was awarded the duke of Kun Wu. The second son, Hui Lian, was given the last name Zhen, and was awarded the duke of Can Wu. The third son, Qian, was given the last name of Peng, and was awarded the duke of Da Pang. The fourth son, Qiu Yan, was given the last name Yun, and was awarded the duke of Hui. The fifth son, An, was given the last name Cao, and awarded the duke of Cao. The sixth son, Ji Lian, was given the last name Mi, and was the forefather of the Chu family. The fifth son was awarded the kingdom of Cao because of his achievements in helping Xia Yu in fighting the flood. Descendents of the Cao kingdom have the last name Cao.Hometown: Hao in Anhui.
