The 39[sup]th[/sup] most common last name in China. Peng was named after a land. The ancient king Zhuan Xu had a great grandson called Wu Hui. Wu Huis son was Lu Zhong, and Lu Zhongs third son was Jian. Jian was awarded the land of Da Ze (Xu Zhou in Jiang Su), and was known as Peng Jian. Peng Jian held a record of long life. According to the legend, Peng prepared a bowl of chicken soup for God. God was very pleased and gave him long life. Peng lived through Xia and Shang Dynasties for more than 800 years.
