牛氏每日一句 09-5-17 动词与介词之间名词的裸露法

首先观察这样一个句子:
We need to bring
people together.

在这个句子里,people左边是个动词,右边是个介词。假设我现在突然想在这个句子里表达“这些people都有共同的爱好”,那么这句就变成:
We need to bring
people who have a common interest together.


可是,看到这样的句子,你不觉得bring和together离得有点儿远吗?为了解决这个问题,老外通常是这么说的:
We need to bring
together people who have a common interest.


依此类推,如果我想在一句人话里同时表达如下两个意思:
1. I put the book in the
bag.
2. I bought the book from
the bookstore.


把上面两句合成一句,就变成:I put in
the bag the book (that) I bought from the bookstore.


有了上面的基础,再看比这句还复杂一点的就顺理成章了:
It imposes upon the
past the same determinism that it imposes upon the
present.


如果去掉对determinism修饰的部分,这句其实是:
It imposes the same
determinism upon the past.


怎么样,你也照样子造一个吧?

方法:先造出两个句子。第一句的结构:有宾语的人话 介词短语(找补的部分);第二句任意,只要包含第一句的宾语即可。
例:1. I gave the money to my
cousin.
2. I
earned the money by working as a babysitter.

组合后:I gave to my cousin the money that I earned by working as a
babysitter.
