The 3[sup]rd[/sup] most common last name in China. Shao Hao has a son called Hui who invented bows and arrows. These were the most important weapons in ancient China. Hui was thus given the title of Gong Zheng, which means the supervisor of the manufacture of bows. Later, the last name of Zhang was used (the ancient word Zhang looks like a person holding a bow). During Chun Qiu, an official Jia Hou of Jin kingdom changed his name to Zhang. At the end of Qin Dynasty, Ji Liang of Han failed to assassinate Qin Shi Huang Di and changed his name to Zhang as a refuge. Both descentents of Jia Hou and Ji Liang bear the last name of Zhang.Hometown: East of Qing He in He Bei Province.
