The 86[sup]th[/sup] most common last name in China. The name Wan originated from the last name Ji. During, the Zhou Dynasty, the Rui kingdom (Dali in Shaanxi) was awarded to a member of the Ji family. During Chun Qiu, Rui Bowan of the Rui kingdom was chased out of the family by his mother Rui Jiang, because Bowan had too many concubines. Bowan was forced to move to Wei Cheng (Rui Cheng in Shaanxi). His descendents used Bowans first name as their last name and started the Wan family. Another clan of the Wans came from Bi Gong Gao, the 15[sup]th[/sup] son of Zhou Wen Wang. During Chun Qiu, Bi Gong Gaos descendent Bi Wan was a judge in the Jin kingdom. His descendents also have the last name Wan.Hometown: east of Xiangyang in Shaanxi Province.
