The 43rd most common last name in China. The Jiangs came from the Ji family and are related to the royal family of the Zhou Dynasty. Zhou Wu Wang had a brother called Zhou Gong Ji, who had a son called Bailing. Bailing was awarded the duke of Jiang in Gushi of Henan. Bailing was also known as Jiang Bo. During the Chun Qiu, the Jiang kingdom was destroyed by Chu, and its people began to bear the last name Jiang. Another source of the Jiang last name is that they are the descendents of Jiang Lu of Qing.
