Origin of Xue*
The 48th most common last name in China. There are two main sources of this last name. 1) Descendents of ancient king Huang Di. Huang Di had 25 sons. One of his sons was given the last name Ren. Ren had a descendent called Xi Zhong, who was awarded the duke of Xi (south east of Teng in Shandong). The Xue kingdom persisted 64 generations from Shang to Zhou, and was brought to an end by Chu. Its people began to bear the last name Xue. 2) During Zhan Guo, Meng Changjun (Tian Wen) was awarded duke of Xue in the same location as the previous Xue kingdom. After Qin eliminated the other six kingdoms, the people of Xue began to bear that last name.
Hometown: North of Xia in Shanxi Province.
