He who rules in the proper course will be as sisted by many; he who
does not rule in the proper course will be assisted by few. When
people who as sist him reach the smallest number, even the mem bers
in his family would rebel against him; when peo ple who assist him
reach the largest number, all men under Heaven would obey him. When
one who all men under Heaven obey attacks those against whom their
family members rebel, he will sure ly win. Therefore, the gentleman
does not usually go to war.If
he does, he always wins.
